Compiled with the assistance of those currently working in the music industry, the following 'Industry Maps' represent our principle areas of the commercial music industry; Recording, Publishing, Artist Management and Live, and are a guide to the different possible types of work within the music industry.
Please remember;
- That each individual company in the music industry operates in a different so each Industry Map can be read as a flow chart of steps or functions that need to be performed to achieve a key outcome i.e. a record release, a live performance etc.
- In a small company several functions could make up one person's work (i.e. in a small record company one person might well handle A&R, marketing and also be the MD), whereas in a large company each function may be performed by a large group of people (e.g. a business affairs/legal team within in a multi-national publishing company could be 5 persons or more).
